Black holes and massive remnants.

چکیده

This paper revisits the conundrum faced when one attempts to understand the dynamics of black hole formation and evaporation without abandoning unitary evolution. Previous efforts to resolve this puzzle assume that information escapes in corrections to the Hawking process, that an arbitrarily large amount of information is transmitted by a planckian energy or contained in a Planck-sized remnant, or that the information is lost to another universe. Each of these possibilities has serious difficulties. This paper considers another alternative: remnants that carry large amounts of information and whose size and mass depend on their information content. The existence of such objects is suggested by attempts to incorporate a Planck scale cutoff into physics. They would greatly alter the late stages of the evaporation process. The main drawback of this scenario is apparent acausal behavior behind the horizon.

Core Formation by a Population of Massive Remnants

Core radii of globular clusters in the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds show an increasing trend with age. We propose that this trend is a dynamical effect resulting from the accumulation of massive stars and stellarmass black holes at the cluster centers. The black holes are remnants of stars with initial masses exceeding ∼ 20 − 25M⊙; as their orbits decay by dynamical friction, they heat the...

Can gas dynamics in centres of galaxies reveal orbiting massive black holes?

If supermassive black holes in centres of galaxies form by merging of black-hole remnants of massive Population III stars, then there should be a few black holes of mass one or two orders of magnitude smaller than that of the central ones, orbiting around the centre of a typical galaxy. These black holes constitute a weak perturbation in the gravitational potential, which can generate wave phen...

Do Supermassive Black Holes Exist at the Center of Galaxies?

General relativistic models of star clusters with large redshifts are investigated to see whether such objects can be stable and long-lived based on evaporation and collision timescales and stability criteria. We find that physically reasonable models of massive clusters of stellar remnants can exist with masses ≥ 10 M⊙, which could simulate black holes at the center of galaxies with large M/L ...

The Formation and Evolution of the First Massive Black Holes

The first massive astrophysical black holes likely formed at high redshifts (z ∼ > 10) at the centers of low mass (∼ 10 M⊙) dark matter concentrations. These black holes grow by mergers and gas accretion, evolve into the population of bright quasars observed at lower redshifts, and eventually leave the supermassive black hole remnants that are ubiquitous at the centers of galaxies in the nearby...

Formation Scenarios for Intermediate-Mass Black Holes

Black holes with hundreds to thousands of solar masses are more massive than can be formed from a single star in the current universe, yet the best candidates for these objects are not located in gas-rich environments where gradual accretion could build up the mass. Three main formation scenarios have been suggested in the literature: that intermediate-mass black holes are the remnants of the f...

A Fallback Disk Model for Ultraluminous X-ray Sources

Current stellar evolution models predict that during the core collapse of massive stars, a considerable amount of the stellar material will fall back onto the compact, collapsed remnants (neutron stars or black holes), usually in the form of an accretion disk. This triggers rapid mass accretion onto, e.g., the black hole, and produces energetic explosions known as Gamma-ray bursts. However it i...
